If you’re not going overseas this holiday, perhaps you can consider going for a weekend staycation at Village Hotel Katong. For us, we live far from the east of Singapore so it feels like a novelty to have a staycation in that part of our sunny island.
We had our staycation during the March holidays this year, but it was not our first time staying at Village Hotel Katong. The last time we were there, we stayed at the Premier Peranakan Room. We specifically stayed in the room where my girl’s painting is displayed.
This time round, we were invited to try out the Village Hotel Katong Weekend Experiential Package – “Throwback Family”.
We stayed in the Family Room this time:
As Village Hotel Katong is a Peranakan-themed hotel, there are various Peranakan tiles and decor items in the Family Room.
There isn’t a bathtub in this room, unlike the exclusive in-room bathtub of the Premier Peranakan room. But since this is a Family Room, you can request for a baby bathtub for free, should you need one.
Kids’ toiletries are also provided free:
While we were settling down in our room, we were pleasantly greeted with welcome drinks:
Since we came straight from our rainbow cake baking class at Creative Culinaire, we decided to just eat some cake for lunch. Haha. Cake for lunch is definitely a first for us.
After cake, we tried out some of the games in the Singapore traditional game set that is part of the Throwback Family package:
We went for a dip after our games and a short rest.
And after that, it was time for Afternoon Tea at Lapis Lounge:
It was a day of almost continuous eating. 😛 But that’s the nature of taking a holiday, right? 😛
So much eating means we need to move more in order not to gain extra pounds. That’s certainly what has been ingrained in me by my nutritionist at Halley Medical Aesthetics. 🙂
That meant exploring the surrounding Katong area on foot. But not without more eating as we couldn’t resist having the Katong 328 Laksa which is just 5 minutes walk from Village Hotel Katong. #shiokmax
We walked quite a fair bit after that and it wasn’t till it was dark that we returned to our room where we played more games after our shower.
The next morning, we headed to Katong Kitchen for complimentary breakfast (which is part of the package).
The spread is sizeable enough:
There’s the usual fare at hotel breakfasts but there are slightly more Peranakan and local dishes. I liked the sambal of the nasi lemak best. I even had it with my omelette. 😀 I was very disappointed with the otah though because it was quite tasteless, not spicy at all.
The kids had a hearty breakfast!
After breakfast, we went to check out the gym because I was intending to work out before checking out.
But my breakfast was too heavy and in the end I couldn’t squeeze in the workout before checking out. Haha. #storyofmylife
All in all, we had a great time bonding as a family during our short staycation. The kids enjoyed the simple games and I must say it’s a good break from the usual gadgets. They were happy to continue playing with the games when we were home in fact.
