Maintaining Youthfulness with Chrysalis Spa

I celebrated my 40th birthday at the start of the Circuit Breaker this year. What a year it has been! All non-essential shops were closed during the CB and we only went out to get groceries about once a week. We got all other stuff ranging from board games to skincare products to even a hair clipper (yes, I have now added ‘barber’ to the many hats I wear) from our online shopping. Luckily I still managed to get a birthday cake!

Taken on my 40th birthday!

Being unable to go for spa or facial doesn’t mean that basic skincare routines should be abandoned. In fact, applying good skincare products is even more important than ever. That’s why I truly appreciated Chrysalis Spa’s kind gesture of sending over their skincare products (which are available on Lazada) to help me maintain my youthful appearance.

Well, as they say, age is just a number. I’m 40, but I don’t have to look 40. 40’s the new 30, babes!

I’ve been using these products for some time now, so I thought it’s a good time to share my review with you.

I’ll review each product in the order which I use them every day. As with all skincare routines, make sure that your skin is properly cleansed before using any products to ensure that you get the most out of them.

  1. Octo
Octo (30ml)

Octo cream is designed to be used in small amounts for removing blackheads, control excessively oily skin and minimise open pores. Its ingredients include sweet almond oil for softening, myrrh, burdock, plantain, mallow and thyme extracts for soothing, softening, sebo-regulating and purifying. It is recommended that you apply the cream only on affected areas where blackheads are present, morning and night, and it is not to be used on acne.

It doesn’t feel thick and it applies smoothly. I take just a little bit each time as a little goes a long way. There is a slight fragrance which is alright with me. I apply this only at night, especially on my nose where the most blackheads abound. I’ve had fewer blackheads and they are also generally easier to remove. I also applied it on my daughter’s nose because of late, blackheads are appearing too! Ah, the pains of puberty.

2. Cells Life

Cells Life (50ml)

Cells Life is a high tech anti-aging serum with Hyaluronic Acid, a natural moisture boosting ingredient to help plump up the skin cells by restoring collagen and elastin, plumping up fine lines and reducing the look of wrinkles. It also acts as a restructuring agent of collagen and elastin tissues and can be used on stretched skin, stretch marks and scars. It is suitable for all aged, dehydrated and demineralised skin.

The main ingredients of Cells Life are palmitoylated oligopeptides for maintaining skin structure, collagen extracts, vegetable glycoproteins for smoothing skin and essential amino acids conditioner. It is recommended to be used daily, applying a few drops to the face and neck, especially at night as skin cells regenerate while we sleep.

It is quite fluid and is absorbed quickly into the skin. I love this as I feel that my skin does feel more supple and nourished over time. I don’t detect any fragrance in this product. It is pricey but each night, only a few drops are required so it should last for quite a long while.

3. Eye Contouring Gel

Eye Contouring Gel (25ml)

No woman above 25 should go without eye cream, someone once told me. I’m not the expert, but I do believe that the appearance of the eye area is crucial to a youthful appearance. With age, the firmness and elasticity of our skin around our eyes diminish, causing wrinkles and a sunken look.  The GERnetic International Eye Contour Gel stimulates collagen synthesis. And with its decongestant action, it restores the skin firmness and elasticity and diminishes bags under the eyes. It is suitable for all skin types, especially dehydrated skin, eye bags, dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles. It is recommended to apply a very small amount around each eye, massaging gently until completed absorbed.

This gel is fluid and takes a while to be absorbed. While applying it, ensure that you massage the gel in very gently to prevent causing more lines. I feel a little tightening around the eye area after the application which I take to be a good sign that the product is working. As with eye creams, there is no need to use much each time. Eye creams always come in small tubes with a seemingly disproportionate price tag but well, they also can be used for a really long time so I guess that evens it out.

4. Nuclea

Nuclea (30ml)

Nuclea cream is an anti-aging cream designed to help with premature aging, deep wrinkles, dehydration, severe cases of inflamed acne, scars, psoriasis, vitiligo and burns. Its ingredients include avocado and olive oil to nourish, moisturise and regenerate, extracts of hyperium and calendula flowers to calm and restore, essential amino-acids and glycoproteins to regenerate, vitamins and peptides. It is recommended to apply Nuclea all over the face and neck at night. For quicker results, you can also use a small amount in the morning before the day cream.

Nuclea cream feels thicker compared to Octo but spreads fairly easily. It also has a fragrance. I apply this more liberally when I turn on the aircon as I feel that it keeps my skin hydrated and soft when I wake in the morning. This is very nourishing and I highly recommend this cream for those with dry skin. It is also good for soothing burns which happens quite often to me as I cook two meals a day every day. I find this too rich for me to use in the day for now so I only apply it at night as the last step of my skincare routine.

Besides using quality skincare products, there are three other factors that I feel contribute to maintaining youthfulness – sufficient hydration, quality sleep, and a healthy diet. So if you are already using quality products but not seeing the results as quickly as you’d like, perhaps there is a need to work on the other areas.
