De Hygienique Review

Last Saturday, we were very pleased to have De Hygienique‘s professional and friendly staff over at our place to clean our mattresses, sofa and carpet. We have moved in for almost a year and a half now and our king-sized mattress was newly bought for this house so yes, it’s pretty new I’d say. Yet, it shocked me when they did a demo with a black cloth as the storage bag for their machine (for about a minute) and showed me how dirty my mattress was!:

De Hygienique’s mattress cleaning system is a very heavy equipment that vibrates to loosen and extract the particles and micro-organisms 4 inches deep within the mattress. Attached UV-C light inbuilt together with the cleaning system simultaneously eliminates bacteria and other harmful micro organisms like dust mites in the mattress.

After the mattress was cleaned (my mattress can only be cleaned on one side so they didn’t flip it over), the internationally patented Potema Spray is then applied on the surface to protect the mattress against micro organisms and re-infestation of dust mites. They also helped to sanitise our bedframe, pillows and bolsters with the spray. 🙂

Completing the cleaning of the mattress with the Potema spray

This 100% dry cleaning process is convenient because the mattress can be used immediately after the treatment. In fact, because no chemicals were used in the cleaning, even babies can sleep on the mattress after the cleaning treatment.

Meanwhile, another staff was cleaning my sofa. After the sofa was vacuumed to extract embedded dust and dirt particles, the fabric was thoroughly cleaned using low moisture shampoo.

Step 1: Clean the sofa with the vacuum cleaner

Shampoo (dry foam) will encapsulate dirt particles trapped in the upholstery into fine crystals which would then be removed at the end of the cleaning treatment.

Step 2: clean with dry foam – stain removal (if any) is done at this stage

Step 3: brushing off the fine crystals (dirt particles)

After the sofa cleaning process was completed, the upholstery set was sanitised to eliminate remaining dust mites and other microorganisms.

The last staff was cleaning my carpet whilst my mattresses and sofa were handled by the other two men. Thus, even though I had a relatively large sofa set, a carpet and two mattresses to clean, they took less than 1.5hours to get everything done! I also really like that they laid out the canvas sheets where they were doing the cleaning so we needn’t do additional vacuuming of the house after the cleaning.

I was really curious how they would clean the carpet since this was the first time we had our carpet professionally cleaned! We were told that they used biodegradable natural compound made of wood and maize to absorb dirt and stains within the carpet pile during the cleaning treatment.

The specially designed machine with motorised counter rotating brush was used to open up the carpet fibre to allow in-depth cleaning.

After the cleaning was done, the carpet was sanitised using patented anti dust mite and germicidal product to eliminate microorganisms in the carpet.

Overall, we were very pleased with the result! 😀

Festive Hotel staycation

If you didn’t already know, we are always going for staycations and we rarely venture anywhere further than Batam or Bintan because we feel that our kids would only really appreciate overseas vacations when they are older so we’re saving the major holiday destinations till then. In July, we went to Festive hotel for a staycation – it was the first time we stayed at a hotel at RWS and since it was off-peak season then, it was quite a steal! We went for the Family room which comes with a loft bed – the highlight of the room!:

The loft bed

Love the feature at the top!

The view of the room from the other side (as you can see, only the stairs to the loft bed is visible from this part of the room: the room’s cleverly designed to provide privacy for both kids and adults)

As it’s a family room, there were two pairs of adult bedroom slippers and a pair of bedroom slippers for kids. The cups in the washroom were also made of plastic rather than the usual glass ones in hotels, and there’s even a step-stool tucked under the sink for kids to reach the sink to wash up! We were also glad that there was a bathtub for us to soak in for we have heard that not every RWS hotel is equipped with bathtubs for their normal rooms.

Checking out the view from the balcony:

I appreciate that there is a clothes drying rack in the balcony for hanging out the wet swim wear – definitely useful!

Swimming at the Festive hotel pool

A perk of staying at RWS hotels – you can use the pools of a few hotels nearby rather than just the one you’re staying at! But we checked out the Festive hotel pool on the first day. There are a few different-sized pools and also a children’s play area:

Kids make friends really easily! 😀

My girl enjoyed the play area thoroughly though I can’t say the same for my boy

We checked out Hard Rock hotel’s pool the next day.

Getting all ready!

There’s a slide at one of the pools and what I love most about Hard Rock hotel is the fact that there’s sand in the pool and it feels just like a beach where you have sand leading up to the pool so you don’t need to head out to any of Sentosa’s beaches and just bring your sand play toys to Hard Rock’s pool. No waves though, so unless you are really going for the full experience of being caressed by waves, you’d be glad to know that this pool is really ideal as it is.

It was a very pleasant staycation overall and that’s why we decided to check out other RWS hotels after this experience. (We stayed at Equarius in September and will be heading back in December!

Read about our experience at Equarius hotel.

[Note: Even though we love staycations and have stayed at many hotels in Singapore, I’ve only begun to document our stays of late so this is a growing list. You can read about our stay at Oasia Hotel and Peranakan-themed Village Hotel Katong.]
