A Candilicious Christmas with Crystal Jade Kitchen

Last Thursday, we were invited to have tea at Crystal Jade Kitchen, Suntec City, where we were treated to the Christmas delights you can expect from Crystal Jade this year. It was a sumptuous spread and even though by the time we got to tuck into the food, the food was a tad cold, the verdict of the food was still good. 🙂

This year, Crystal Jade My Bread has in its Yuletide take-away menu, over 30 best-selling delights, new party bites and candy-coloured confectionery for those who want traditional Christmas dishes paired with Asian-inspired flavours.

For instance – Fish and Pork Stick in Thai Style ($14.80, 12pcs)

Returning to this year’s Christmas menu for the seventh straight year is Crystal Jade’s hot favourite (prepared on the same day of collection so you can serve these without reheating) – Roasted Home Recipe Turkey ($92, approx. 3.5-4kg), a tender and juicy dish in which the turkey is seasoned for hours in orange juice, five-spice, oregano and other herbs.

This turkey was quite delish and my girl ate quite a bit of it that day!

A wonderful complement is the Honey Baked Ham ($39.80, approx. 1.2-1.4kg)

My little boy ate ONLY this that afternoon

and the popular canapés Mushroom Vol-au-vent ($22.80, 12pcs), made with creamy mushroom toppings in light, fluffy pastry.

I absolutely LOVED this! Creamy mushrooms is definitely my thing!

New sweet treats include the Joyous Snowman Mixed Fruit Cake ($45, approx. 1kg and 20cm diameter) which will certainly get you and your guests smiling!

One of Crystal Jade’s best sellers, the vanilla sponge cake is packed with luscious bits of fruit – fresh strawberries, canned pineapples or peaches depending on availability. The cake was fluffy and light, but my girl was more interested in the bits of fruits in the cake, and we had a second helping.

We even got to decorate a mini snowman cake while we were there that day and it certainly was the highlight for my little girl!:

Other desserts include the fluffy Mini Vanilla Profiterole ($14.80, 15pcs), Mini Chocolate Eclair ($14.80, 15pcs) topped with icing and rainbow sprinkles,

festival cupcakes – Christmas Tree Cutie Cupcakes ($20.80, 12pcs) topped with a colourful mini Christmas Tree with a surprise strawberry inside.

KidStartNow review

I hosted a giveaway for KidStartNow‘s Chinese holiday camp a couple of weeks back and we attended the complimentary class last week. Though I wasn’t obliged to write a review about the programme after attending it, I decided to do so as my girl enjoyed herself thoroughly. Apart from art enrichment, my girl has never attended any 3-hour programme on her own before. We were wondering how she would cope with 4 days of 3 hours of Chinese camp but we definitely didn’t need to worry about her after we saw how happy she was at the camp.

When we entered KidStartNow’s premises, we were very impressed by the lengths the staff went to to make the environment kid-friendly and conducive for learning. As the theme was about a fantasy underwater adventure, the place was decked up beautifully according to the theme. Even the waiting area was decorated!

Before the kids entered the classroom on the first day, the teacher (who has more than 20 years of experience teaching preschoolers) introduced them to the characters.

Swimming off to the classroom!

As you can see, much effort was put in to immerse the kids in the learning journey for the 4-day camp.

I love the clownfish hat! 😀

And it was great for phototaking too!

After the first half hour or so of the lesson, we decided that she was really comfortable enough and so we left KidStartNow and went to get a bite. When we returned, we sat the waiting area and watched what was happening in the classroom via skype and this was a scene I caught on the camera from the television:

Ooh, so fun! 😀

My little boy watching what’s happening on the screen as well:

The lesson incorporates quite a bit of use of IT but the kids also did some crafts during the camp:

It’s little wonder that my girl enjoyed herself and looked forward to every lesson!

While almost all the Chinese holiday camp slots are full, the regular N2, K1 and K2 classes are starting in Jan 2014, and if you are interested, you can sign up for a free trial and (if you sign up before 1/1/14, there’s a 20% early bird discount). For more information about the programme offered, you can view the brochure here.

Disclosure: I was not compensated nor obliged to write this review. All opinions are based on our experience at the Chinese camp.
