Fat Freeze: The Next Logical Move

After my dismal attempt at slimming down my thighs this year through exercise (see my 2016 mid-year goal review post), I decided that I needed professional help. During my first appointment with Dr. Terence Tan of Halley Medical Aesthetics, he had made two suggestions with respect to my concerns of the appearance of my legs.

After having tried out the CoolSculpting treatment for my thighs, I made the decision to give it a go with the CoolMini for my knobbly knees when I went back for the review of the treatment for my thighs.

CoolSculpting Thighs

You may be wondering if there are fats at the knee to freeze. I’m not sure about you, but I definitely have quite a chunk of fat to freeze there. For years now, I’ve come to stop buying skirts or dresses that stop just slightly above the knee because that just draws too much attention to my knobbly knees.

I know of toning exercises for thighs (which haven’t worked so well for me, either), but I seriously have no idea what I can do about the fat in my knees. Until now, of course!

What is CoolMini?

CoolMini works in the same way as CoolSculpting (you can read more about how CoolSculpting works in my previous post).

The main difference is that the CoolMini has a much smaller applicator that is used to target the stubborn fats in the knees, double chin, and bra fat at the armpit regions.

Treatment Day

On the treatment day, Dr. Terence Tan briefed me again about the procedure.

After that, he did a pinch test for the area around my knee to ascertain how much fat there is and suggest how many sessions I might need.

Subsequently, it was time to decide where to place the applicator and mark the spot using the applicator template to ensure that the CoolMini applicator will be placed correctly.

Dr. Terence Tan actually gave me some suggestions on the applicator placements, but I decided to let him make the call as I trust his professional opinion.

He then took photos of my knees so that we would be able to compare the difference in 2 to 3 months time when I return for review.

Treatment was straightforward since I have experience with CoolSculpting (you can view my CoolSculpting video in this post). I was definitely not as apprehensive as I was the previous time.

Here’s the video of the process:

Was it cold? Unlike CoolSculpting for my thighs, I hardly felt cold this time when the applicator was placed on – probably because the area is much smaller and also less sensitive. I didn’t even need to put on socks this time, though I did eventually put on my cardigan.

Was it painful? Not at all! I played Sudoku on my phone throughout the treatment.

How long does it take? The CoolMini treatment takes about 45 minutes per knee. Halley Medical Aesthetics is one of the few clinics in Singapore that offers DualSculpting, which is the use of two CoolSculpting machines at the same time (read my previous post for the FAQ I compiled on my CoolSculpting experience). This effectively reduces treatment time by half.

What happens after the treatment?

The area where the applicator was placed was reddish when the applicator was removed. After a while, the redness disappeared and basically that is it! No pain, no downtime. In fact I went straight to pick up my boy after his holiday class at The Learning Lab and I didn’t get any funny looks from anyone.

Now it’s just to wait for the frozen fat cells to be removed naturally by the body system! Will update in 2 to 3 months time!

Spurbox subscription box review

As promised in my previous post about Spurbox’s fun classes, here’s my Spurbox subscription box review.

Technically, this advent calendar box I received is not a recurring subscription, but Spurbox has a range of subscription boxes and I would assume that what the boxes offer is somewhat similar in terms of the creativity of the crafts.

As with other subscription boxes (you can click on the link to view other subscription boxes I’ve reviewed), the activities are packed into separate bags within the box. We actually received the box the day before we went to Taiwan in December and when we got back, the kids enthusiastically dove right into the activities.

Spurbox subscription boxSock craft: stuffed snowman (with rice) – this is definitely my favourite, so it deserves a mention!

Spurbox subscription boxOverall, the kids needed little help or supervision to complete the crafts. My hubby oversaw most of the activities for this box and his feedback is that this is one of the most enjoyable subscription boxes so far. That says a lot because my hubby is totally not into crafts. 😀

I like that besides having individual craft activities, there’s a jigsaw piece in each of the activity bags which forms a complete picture when all the activities have been completed, which adds another dimension of fun to the box:

Here are some of the completed pieces:

I didn’t manage to feature all of the crafts in the box because the kids played with some of the completed crafts and destroyed their work before I could take a photo. 😀 You get the idea though. And I’m sure you understand the destructive bit too.

There’s plenty of variety in terms of the type of craft – there were a couple of clay crafts (and one with a battery-operated light too!), pipe cleaner crafts, sock crafts etc.

I used to do up my own advent crafts in the past but it’s been tedious having to do a roundup of the activities to be done and also getting the materials needed. This advent calendar box was a lifesaver (and time-saver) this year (we skipped advent in 2015 and 2014 as we were away on holiday).

The advent calendar box is obviously not available at the moment since Christmas is over, but there are other subscription boxes that Spurbox offers.

Besides the Joy Box (craft box for 2-10-year-olds), Spurbox also has a Sensoria subscription box (for 12+months and above), and a P-Skool: Early Literacy Creative Programme subscription box. You don’t need to commit immediately to a 1-year subscription – you can always opt for the trial box first and see how you like the box!

Disclosure: We received two advent calendar boxes for review. No monetary compensation was received.
