Hiding vegetables a breeze with the Philips Jamie Oliver blender

Philips Jamie OIiver Blender

You’d never guess how many vegetables went into making this sauce!

My kids like vegetables, but only certain ones. Vegetables like broccoli, carrots, peas and spinach are a hit while bell peppers, celery and pumpkin/squash rank high on their hate list. Like any other parent, I hope that they would try to eat a wider variety of veggies but of course, hoping has hardly gotten me anywhere.

That’s when I try to get sneaky.

Sneaky’s good when you’re playing hide-and-seek, especially with vegetables. The best and most important part is… not to be found.

I can of course trust my Philips Jamie Oliver blender to do just that for me! With its long-lasting ultra-sharp titanium-coated 5-star blades and its powerful motor, I have absolute faith that the loathed vegetables will not be found by my kids, at least they’d never be able to find any visible traces. And what works out best for me is that my kids love and crave pasta because you know, you can hide just about a million things in the pasta sauce, and they’d never know *crosses fingers*.

You already know that I’ve made quite a few types of pasta sauces but this one is special.

It’s got all their hated veggies in it, alongside a few other types of veggies. *evil grin*

Now here are the veggies you need to make this sneaky, erm, I mean, nutritious sauce! And I adapted it from Jamie Oliver, the man himself! (see printable recipe below)

Wash and dice the veggies.

Such beautiful colours! Which mum wouldn’t be proud to say that her kids ate such a variety of vegetables at a meal?

Heat a large pot and add a tablespoon of olive oil to the pot, followed by all the vegetables.

Add the canned tomatoes, vegetable/chicken/beef stock, mixed herbs, bay leaves, salt and black pepper. Bring it to a boil then simmer for about 30minutes.

When done, I removed the bay leaves before blitzing the veggies with my Philips Jamie Oliver blender until smooth – and that takes absolutely no time at all. 🙂 If you’re using a blender with a plastic jar, you’d have to wait till the vegetables are cooled but since the Philips Jamie Oliver blender comes with a 1.5L glass jar which can withstand heat, I didn’t have to spend 15minutes watching my toenails grow while waiting for the veggies to cool. I just waited for a couple of minutes max before blitzing them in the blender – and always make sure that the lid is secure before blitzing.

Made enough for three meals!

My kids didn’t even flinch when I served their pasta with this sauce (topped with rotisserie chicken) up to them. They just happily lapped everything up, not knowing of course that they are eating their most hated vegetables. Ah, sweet success!

Breastfeed in public with ease – Be a part of the Big B Event

I’ve breastfed for more than 5 years – breastfed through pregnancy, tandem breastfed and my 21-month-old is still set on drinking my milk so yes, I’m still breastfeeding. 🙂 How do you reject a tot who comes up to you and says ‘I want milk milk!’ then plants a kiss on your lips and gives you a hug? Yeah, I can’t, and I’m glad to say that breastfeeding is something that we both enjoy.

Having breastfed for 5 years and counting, I’ve had my fair share of breastfeeding in public. Before I share my 5 favourite nursing gear for nursing in public, here’s an event I’d like to invite you to.

Are you a breastfeeding mum? On 31 August 2013, breastfeed with pride at the Big B Event and be part of a national record!

How to breastfeed in public

Breastfeeding in public isn’t a daunting task if you are well-prepared. Apart from rehearsing how to nurse discreetly at home, having the right gear will help boost your confidence. Here are my 5 favourite nursing gear for breastfeeding in public!

#1 Nursing bras

Try to get nursing bras that open up to expose only the nipple portion to minimise the amount of skin exposed.

#2 Sling

When I had my girl, I nursed her in the sling and had good coverage – I could nurse while dining with my friends and nobody could tell that I was breastfeeding at all!

#3 Nursing tops/ dresses

5 years have made a huge difference – there are so many more designs available for nursing mamas these days so breastfeeding won’t make a frumpy mom out of ya.

#4 Nursing band

I only knew about nursing bands after I delivered my boy. I wish I’d known about it while I was pregnant with him! Nursing bands can be used during pregnancy to increase the ‘lifespan’ of your non-maternity tops as they can cover the belly when your tops get too short. After delivery, these nursing bands can be worn under your top so that when you lift your non-nursing top to nurse, you won’t need to expose your tummy. Wearing the nursing band under the top also gives a trendy layered look!

#5 Nursing shawl/ cover

This is especially useful when the baby grows out of the sling. It also gives full coverage when nursing, whether or not you have nursing tops. It however draws immediate attention to the fact that you are breastfeeding so people may just take a second glance at you. Nevertheless, I find this very useful as I can nurse anywhere confidently. Pick a nursing shawl that is light-weight and breathable so that baby/tot will feel comfortable whilst nursing – that means baby will be less likely to resist nursing under cover!
