Titans of the Past @ Science Centre

We attended the media launch of Titans of the Past at the Science Centre last Thursday and were totally wowed by the exhibits.

Featuring the real fossil of the world’s largest T.Rex skull, the Growth and Behaviour of Dinosaurs is a unique exhibition that features the original research conducted by Museum of the Rockies Paleontologist Dr. Jack Horner and his research team. The other component of the exhibition (Aurea Exhibitions, Argentina) showcases the Argentinosaurus and the Giganotosaurus as well as the Ice Age creatures.

Before the exhibition was officially declared open, we had some fun watching others get beautiful dino tattoos, make origami dinosaurs, and of course the must-have dinosaur balloons.

We got a blue stegosaurus and a yellow T-rex

We were first greeted by the skull of former Torosaurus:

and since one component of the exhibition is about the growth of dinosaurs, there was a whole range of triceratops specimens:

We even heard the differences in sound a grown Hypacrosaurus makes compared to a juvenile and a baby Hypacrosaurus.

Here’s sharing my kids’ favourite video I took at the exhibition – the loud crunching of bones!

Other breath-taking sights that I’ve only seen on television and finally saw up-close before my eyes… and these are what you can feast your eyes on:

The Argentinosaurus Skeleton – Largest sauropod ever found 36m (L) x 7m (H)

And the highlight of the exhibition:

There are also extremely interesting exhibits like this – guessing the dino’s diet from its poo:

And this is the budding paleontologist’s dream –

Be prepared. Be very prepared to stay here for a long long time.

The last area of the exhibition showcases 10 animatronics animals from the Ice Age presented in scenes depicting their habitats. Showing you a few here and I’ll leave you to check out the rest on your own!

Sentosa Spooky Junior 2013

Last Friday, we were invited to the cutest halloween party ever at Sentosa Spooky Junior @ Port of Lost Wonder (POLW)!

It was the first time we were at POLW at night and the view was spectacular.

We were given masks –

and there were also embellishments which could be added to the masks –

sentosa spooky juniorWe arrived late at 7.40pm but were still in time to catch the last part of the story-telling session:

After that, there was a scavenger hunt but we skipped that and went straight to check out the booths. My girl had been so excited about painting pumpkins since I told her about it and so we headed straight for that! The decorations at some of the booths were really gorgeous, and I’m sure you’ll agree after you view the photos 🙂

The kids were given the pumpkins and the painting started:

After that, we left the pumpkins on a table to dry and proceeded to the next booth (Garden fairies) where the kids could get either a manicure or a glitter tattoo. Well, my girl got a manicure (her first!) and my boy got a tattoo. If you want to have both, you’d have to pay in curios (the currency at POLW).

yes, he chose a panda!

After that, we proceeded to make our magic potions. I love the decor, the use of glass test tubes and the costume!

My girl carefully mixed the potion –

and it was quite tasty too –

We headed to check out the Royal Portrait where we could take a family photo but since my girl wasn’t interested we skipped that. You can also rent costumes to take the portrait at Royal Boutique but you’d have to pay extra curios.

The bubbly cauldron looked super fun but we weren’t ready to get wet that late at night (also needs extra curios to play).

I think my children’s favourite booth was the cotton candy one!

And what’s a party without balloons? 😀

We left at the end of the party so we managed to catch a shot of the very passionate team at POLW –

And I loved the lights –

We were quite tired by the end of the party but we had two very happy kids!! The best halloween party in our opinion – nothing gory and bringing out the fun elements of halloween for kids! Remember to check out this lovely party next year!

Spooky Jr. (suitable for kids aged 3-12) was held on 25th and 26th October.
Tickets price:
$28/Child (POLW Members at Curio Exchange)
$35/Child (Advance till 24 Oct)
$39.90/Child (On event days)
$10/Adult (inclusive of 1 house pour)
