Christmas Countdown Day #2 – Christmas Stocking

Day #2 – Make a Christmas stocking

We made Christmas stockings last year and my little girl loved it! So this year, I made sure I planned making Christmas stockings into our list of advent activities.

Today’s day #2 of Christmas countdown and it’s the day I’ve planned to make Christmas stockings and that’s what we did this afternoon.

Posing with the materials:

This year I used foam sheets instead of red construction paper. You can actually cut out another identical stocking and ‘sew’ the pieces together to get a real stocking, but I wanted a simple and quick activity so we just went with this.

I provided her with a wide range of embellishments and glitter glue.

And here’s the final product! (I added her name with glitter glue). I think it looks very cute! ๐Ÿ™‚

Christmas countdown Day #1

It’s the first day of advent and we’re counting down to Christmas this year on the blog using a clothes pin wreath advent calendar my little girl made and not forgetting the fun advent activitiesย I’ve planned for my family for 2012.

I hope you’ll enjoy the list of activities I’ve planned – you don’t need to do all the activities if you don’t have time or don’t want to, but I’d be honoured if you would share your photos of your Christmas countdown activities on Simply Mommie’s Facebook page. Looking forward to seeing your photos! ๐Ÿ™‚

Day #1 – Decorate a Christmas Tree!

Honestly, we couldn’t wait till today to decorate our miniature tree. The kids put it up the moment we reached home after we bought it in November. We’d thrown our huge Christmas tree away when we moved in June this year and hubby wasn’t keen to get another so everyone compromised on this miniature tree which we picked up at the thrift store (Daiso) for a mere SGD$2.

It’s Little Man’s first real Christmas – he was only 2 months old at last year’s Christmas, so he was totally blown away by the idea of having a little tree in the house!:

He was pretty happy to handle the baubles we bought (for $2 too!):

Decorating the tree was a major highlight for my girl and she was the one who picked out the tree and the baubles herself.

The kids got very excited and it was a wonderful feeling watching them enjoy themselves at such a simple activity which costs so little too!

We passed him one too just for the fun of it:

but he must be wondering if the baubles can be eaten – look at him drool!

It didn’t take him very long before he started to mess with the baubles that his sister had put up:

But thankfully, my little girl was rather patient as she put the baubles back on the tree!

I’m sure kids will enjoy this little activity! You don’t need to buy a huge tree to make the kids happy – my kids can attest to that!

Join us as we make our Christmas stockings tomorrow! ๐Ÿ™‚
