After reading about creating small world play for imaginative play, I went around scouting for some toy animals and I chanced upon a shop selling a good collection of Safari Toobs. These are so beautifully crafted and I would have bought more collections if we weren’t on a tight budget.

I would have used insta-snow if I had it on hand and I think I would try making fake snow next time I have a winter theme but I was anxious to put everything together immediately for my little girl so I used what I had – salt.

I had bought salt for making coloured salt to play with as my hubby would never allow me to buy sand for playing with so instead of colouring the batch of salt I bought, I used it to make the penguins small world play box.

I added silver glitter, white pompoms, silvery white pompoms and tore aluminium foil into tiny bits. I wanted to add some decorative blue gems for the ‘ocean’ but I don’t have any but my little girl didn’t mind at all! It was all done in a matter of a couple of minutes but so many hours of enjoyment and imaginative play have elapsed since.

We had lots of fun and even my hubby couldn’t resist playing with this box. 🙂

To make things more educational, we borrowed some information books for preschoolers to learn more about the penguins we were playing with. I totally enjoyed the sessions we had sitting outside the house on a plastic sheet with our penguin small world play box and reading these books and finding the exact breed of penguins we read about in the books in our collection. 🙂

Celebrating the launch of Philips AVENT’s NEW comfort breast pumps and natural bottles

We were invited to Philips AVENT’s Baby Shower to celebrate the launch of their latest milk bottle design and breast pump. It was a very rainy evening but nothing could dampen the mood at the little party we were at!

We were warmly greeted (with canapés too!) and the kids had a play area, complete with a professional baby sitter to take care of them while I listened to the concise and interesting evolution of milk bottles and breast pumps.

We were also shown how Avent has progressed over the years, delivering a number of industry firsts – 1st breast pump to imitate babies’ suckling action, 1st feeding bottle with clinically proven anti-colic properties, 1st single handed breast pump among many other achievements!

The first redesign in 29 years, this new range of milk bottles, breast pumps and accessories aims to make it even easier to move between breast and bottle feeding. The new Philips AVENT Natural bottles feature a wide breast-shaped teat that promotes natural latch on similar to the breast, preventing nipple and teat confusion.

I particularly liked how the informative talk was peppered with interesting bits of information about how the ‘feeding mechanism’ has evolved since ancient times, many of those items hardly resembling what we know to be a milk bottle today! And the Quiz time was quite a highlight as children as well as hubbies were invited to participate and my little girl was elated to get a cute insulated lunch bag as a prize for answering a question correctly 🙂

After the talk we could go round to view the samples of the improved pump and bottles. Not only has the teat of the bottle been redesigned, the shape of the milk bottle itself has also been improved to make it easier to handle for little hands. The Comfort breast pump features soft silicone petals which gently massages the breast to stimulate the let-down reflex. Of course we couldn’t have a go at expressing milk during the party, but do watch for my upcoming review of this fabulous pump soon.
