Timbre @ Gillman Super Social BBQ {Review}

Two Sundays back, we went to Timbre @ Gillman for an early dinner with my mum and aunt. I’d heard that it’s a family-friendly restaurant and this November, the Super Social BBQ Weekends are carnival-themed. We arrived at 5-ish, but you can arrive anytime after 4pm.

With the place decked up like it’s a carnival, the kids quickly disappeared from my side while I browsed the menu and checked out the place.

This is where the kids can make small games, do face painting, balloon sculpting and rub-on tattoos. This area’s nearer to where we were seated so the kids went to check out the outdoor area first.

We were well-equipped with mosquito patches but somehow the mosquitoes at the outdoor area weren’t really repelled by the patches. I killed one or two mosquitoes that decided to feast on me while I took photos.

What really attracted the kids though were the simple carnival games. I think they might be too old for the bouncy castle and pirate ship so they found the old-school games more interesting.

While the kids played, the live band started. You can dedicate songs through the sms system and the kids are welcome to dance to the music if they like.

Not too long after, our food started arriving. We ordered a total of four mains, two kids meals, wings to share and one dessert to share. We were tempted to order portabello mushrooms to share – thankfully we didn’t because we wouldn’t have been able to finish the food! 😀 Maybe next time!

Of the four mains, our hands-down favourite was the beef. We ordered it medium and it was cooked to our preference. The sauce complemented the beef very well. Our next favourite was the chicken. It’s a large serving and it was juicy, tender and very succulent. Great taste and value for money definitely. It wasn’t spicy at all and my boy loved it too. The fish was the least favourite – too fishy for our liking. The ribs were fine, not particularly outstanding, but it was alright.

Cheesy popcorn chicken (tender popcorn chicken with cheese sauce , aioli and topped with bonito flakes and seaweed $11

The kids loved the pasta bolognaise. It’s actually quite a big serving and my children would have been ok to share it. The cheesy popcorn chicken dish wasn’t very well-received by the kids. I kinda liked it though because I thought the bonito flakes was an ingenious pairing with the cheesy chicken. The kids didn’t agree. I think they just don’t like bonito flakes.

2 glasses house wine + Timbre wings $34

The house wine was very good and hubby and I totally enjoyed it. In fact, overall, I think Timbre @ Gillman is quite an ideal place to chill, enjoy some music, sip wine and have some conversation with or without kids.

I would recommend coming early for dinner then chill with the wine later as it can get really dark after the sun sets and you won’t be able to see your food very well. I had to get my hubby to turn on the flashlight on his phone so I could get a shot of the dessert.

Chocolate sphere: chocolate mousse , paired with hazelnut creme , on a cocoa biscuit , Berry coulis and strawberries $15

The dessert was delicious! The only complaint I have would be the fact that there is only one dessert on the menu. Some variety would have been better even though technically, this dessert is wonderful in itself.

While the adults enjoyed the dessert, the kids were busy at this area:

Overall, we had an enjoyable time.The food is good, portions are large, music is enjoyable and the wine is fab. It would have been perfect if the mosquitoes were less attracted to the kids. My girl in particular got quite badly bitten so she was grumpy throughout dinner. After dinner when the bites had subsided, you can see she was back to her usual self and we had to in fact make the kids leave because they actually wanted to get some more body painting done.

Super Social BBQ fun happens on both Saturday and Sunday, from 4pm!
