During the December holidays, we went to check out My Little Climbing Room, a safe haven for rock climbing for children, especially for beginners. We were invited to the rock-climbing facility prior to it opening its doors to the public but we only managed to make a trip down in December.
If your child is new to rock climbing, this is a good place to start. We had previously scaled the wall at The Cliff at Jurong East, and back then my little one didn’t dare to. Can’t blame him since the wall at The Cliff is much higher and also not built with little ones in mind.
At My Little Cimbing Room, it offers a shorter wall and closer holds since it’s specially designed to cater for children’s height and reach. This means children can safely build self-confidence in the sport. Anyway, after the tedious packing and unpacking, and the massive cleaning of our big move, we were all glad to finally bring the kids out for a fun time to expend their boundless energy.
My Little Climbing Room features a 4m tall wall:
I like that it’s not too tall for the younger kids and it really is less daunting.
There are also 3 levels of difficulties for each coloured wall which adds to the fun and challenge.
When you complete all the challenges, you’ll even get a reward!:
The level 3 tasks were really challenging, even for my girl who’ll be turning 10 this year. And she’s pretty strong for someone of her petite stature. Needless to say, it was a real struggle trying to complete level 3 tasks for my boy! But he was motivated enough to keep trying and eventually did it in the 1.5hour session.
Apart from the 4m-tall wall, there are three more walls which are really quite fascinating!
There’s (1) the obstacle wall:
The obstacle wall is easy for older kids but might be a bit of a challenge for the younger ones.
(2) augmented reality wall
The kids enjoyed this wall out of the three because of the race to tap all the ‘dots’ on the wall in the fastest timing, so you can keep working on your personal best timing.
(3) number wall
First, generate a number randomly:
Then climb and touch the number:
I thought some of the numbers could be placed higher so that there would be more of a challenge.
Apart from rock climbing, there’s also a hangout zone where kids can climb the ladder, traverse the monkey bar, scale the rope or swing on the wrecking ball. A maximum of 2 kids is allowed at any one time at the hangout zone for safety.
There’s also a Wheelie Zone:
There are a couple of these wheelies and balance toys lying around and the balance toys are not easy!
During the 1.5 hour slot, it’s 30 mins free play, followed by 30 mins of group games, and lastly 30 mins free play.
Back to climbing!:
One important thing to take note of is that the recommended adult-child ratio is 1:1, for family bonding but more crucially to ensure safety. Grippy socks are a must for the kids. If you don’t have socks, you can purchase them there before your session.
At the end of the session, you get to bring back a free photo!:
The kids had loads of fun and are looking forward to their next session! To book a session, you can click here. Here is the FAQ and the price list.
