A few years ago before I had my little boy, I dreamt of making an art tote/pouch for my daughter. I googled and scoured the Internet for easy ways to DIY one with my limited hand-sewing skills. After many months of dreaming (and even trying with felt!), I knew that I just wasn’t blessed with the talent to sew, and I didn’t want to invest in a sewing machine given the nightmares the sewing component of Home Economics gave me back in my secondary school days.
And so I gave up.
How sad it was, knowing full well that my little artist would totally snag the art pouch. Some things weren’t meant to be. So DIY was out.
Although I gave up on making one on my own, I continued to keep a lookout for something similar for her. I saw a semi-hardcase one at Smiggle but it just isn’t quite her style now.
Then by providence, Made for Tots approached me and asked if I would like to review the products. And I found exactly what I wanted to make (but couldn’t). It was just as I’d imagined. But even better.
Well, of course this was our customised order – she chose the pink fabric (no other colour comes close to this in the universe) and the fairy design.
There are individual slots for the colouring medium and I chose to let her carry her markers around instead of crayons or colour pencils because I didn’t want to dirty the fabric. The pouch can only be spot-cleaned – no washing (hand or machine), no soap, no bleach.
I slotted in two standard exercise book sized notebooks in the zipper compartment so the kids could have one book each and share the markers.
It’s the must-bring item these days when we head out, especially when I bring them out on my own and on long MRT rides. The art items have always been in MY bag so I’m really glad that now I’m no longer responsible for storing those items.
My little boy got a personalised drawstring bag with a car motif. There’s more than enough room to bring along his favourite stuffed toy and one of his favourite books when we went for our staycation.
We currently use it for our weekly swim so his belongings can be stored there and he can head off to change with daddy with his bag. The straps are a little long for him now and they sometimes fall off his shoulders but with some simple adjustments, it works fine. 🙂
And which kid wouldn’t love having something personalised, just for them? 🙂
Besides these two items, Made for Tots also customises other items such as aprons, towels, bathrobes, diaper bags and crib organisers, tote purses, place mats and more!
Here’s your chance to win an Art Activity Pouch (similar to the one my girl has, with your child’s name of course). Even if you have a little boy, the product can be customised to suit boys – boys doodle too, don’t they? I know mine does! (You can check out the various design variations here.)
As usual to participate, simply fill in the details required in the Rafflecopter widget! The more options you fulfil, the more chances you have of winning! 😀
