Christmas countdown Days #19 & #20 – Christmas playdough

We made Christmas playdough yesterday! I made the playdough using the previous no-cook playdough recipe and scented it with peppermint flavour (use peppermint oil if you want a stronger smell and if you have older kids). Before I could tell Alicia not to add all the glitter into the bowl of dough, she emptied it so we ended up with silver glitter for the entire batch.

I set up an invitation for her to play and create with the peppermint scented playdough, festive cupcake toppers, silicon cups, cookie cutters, googly eyes…

And when she was past the stage of just making snowmen and cutting shapes with the cookie cutters, she went into serious pretend play mode with the snowmen toppers she had. She made beds, pillows, bolsters and blankets for some of them while some others ‘slept’ in the wooden house which we made in an earlier project.

And so we went through many cycles of night and day with the snowmen, waking up to play in the snow, eat breakfast, lunch and dinner then go back to bed.

And she turned the silicon cups upside down which made pretty tables for the snowmen – seriously, I’d never have thought of that! Where do these little brains get such marvellous ideas?

As she went on with her pretend play, she started to ask for more details, such as giving all the snowmen carrots on their plates:

We carried on playing when little boy woke up from his nap. He didn’t like the playdough much the last time. He still doesn’t like it very much, and touched it gingerly at first.

You know he’s usually full of smiles but well, with playdough? Hmm, that’s another story.

We had so much fun with this batch of playdough and I totally enjoyed myself too! Don’t you simply enjoy pretend play with your children too? ๐Ÿ™‚

P.S. I’ll update the previous missed days of Christmas countdown when I have time but for now, we have just 4 more days to Christmas! Remember to swing by to check out the list of advent activities I’ve planned!
